Able Channell's Last Will and Testament


Last Will and Testament  BE IT REMEMBERED that I Able Channell of 

of                       Fawn Township in the County of York and State of Pennsylvania 

Able Channell            for me being weak in body, yet in good health and of sound 

                         mind, memory and understanding do publish this instru-

ment of writing as and for my last will & testament in manner and form following by;

It is my will and I order all my just debts and funeral expenses to be paid as soon as 

conviently can be done after my decease. Item, I give and bequeath to my

beloved Wife Jane the plantation that we reside on in Fawn Township containing 

about fifty acres, be the same more or less, for and during her natural life

I also devise and givre her one Horse, one Cow, three Sheep or their value in money, 

Two Hogs, one feather bed & its furnature, one chest of Drawers, one cooking Stove, 

One corner Cupboard and its contents, Six chairs and as much kitchen furnature

as will be necessary for housekeeping, also as much grain and potatoes for

her support as will serve until another crop is oaid, all the avove bequest made 

to my said Wife, is considered to be in lieu of dower, all the rest of my personal 

property I order my Executor to sell, to pay debts and other expenses.

Item, I give and bequeath to my son John Channell one dollar to be paid by 

my Executor. Item, I give and bequeath to my son William Channell one 

dollar to be paid by my Executor. Item, I give and bequeath to my dau-

ghter Mary intermarried with William Ramsay one dollar to be paid to

her by my Executor. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter, Margaret

intermarried with William Webb one dollar to be paid to her by my Executor. 

Item I give to my son Allen Channell the occupancy of a lot of land whereon 

he reside containing about twenty four acres be the same more or less, that was 

surveyed off for his use, bounded on the east by a public road and adjoining 

lands of John Macelwain an Joseph Anderson, but I bequeath and devise 

the title of said lot of land to Allens children Item I give and bequeath 

to my Grandson William Channell the lot of land laid off for his father in 

his lifetime and now occupied by the widow, containing above sixteen 

acres more or less adjoining lands of John Macelwan and bounded on the 

West by the public road aforesaid, by his paying thereout two hundred dollars 

to his four Sisters, namely Sarah Jane, Laura Virginia, Ann Elizabeth and 

Mary Margaret, share and share alike and I wish him to take possession 

when he [--?--] to the age of Sixteen years, and allowing him ten years after 

my decease to pay the above legacies to his Sisters, I also give to grandson 

above named my new writing desk, and I wish it be understood that his mother 

is to occupy this premises whilst she remains Issac Channells Widow, 

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Araminta, intermarried with William 

Ale"r Heaps three hundred dollars out of my estate. Item, I give and bequeath 

to my daughter Ann Eliza intermarried with Hezekiah Freeston one and

a half acres of Chestnut timber land, to be marked off for her at the southern 

end of my woodland, I also give her my orchard next to the public 

road aforesaid, this addition top what she has received is her full Share out 

of my estate. Item I give and bequeath tomy four granddaughters above 

named two fields of Land and a strip adjoining to next the line of a lot 

conveyed to their father runing to the State line, these fields are also bounded 

by the state line on the south, and on the west by the public road aforesaid 

and elsewhere by the Land left to my wife the present fences to constitute the 

line between them. After the death of my wife it is my will and desire that 

all the property both real and personal that was left to my wife be sold




and also the fields left to my granddaughters and I hereby give my Executor full power and authority to sell and convey the real estate by by dead or deeds, to the purchaser or purchasers, and do all things necessary in the premises that I could myself do if living and after settlement is made of my estate and legacy and all other expenses fully paid and satisfied. I allow the balance or remainder to be paid to my Son Able Channell, as follows, the money to be left or kept in my Executors hands in trust for him and to be paid to him as necessity seems to require the monery from the sale of my granddaughters part, to be applied for their benefit on interest, until they are of proper age to receive the same at the discretion of my Executor, if any of my heirs feels dissatisfied at the distribution of my effects and seems disposed to lay in a"set in order to claim something, I hereby declare they can have no just claim for I owe them nothing but good will, and if they cavaet my will, it must be at their own expense. And Lastly, I hereby nominate, consta- ble and appoint my Soninlaw William Alexdaner Heaps, to execute this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and annulling all wills by me heretofor made and declaring this and no other to be my last will and testament, In Witness, whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fifth day of the tenth month A.D. Eighteen hundred sixty 1860. Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in presence of us who signed our names as Witness at his request Abel Channell *seal* E. R. Herbert W. R. Jones WHEREAS, I Able Channel of Fawn Township York County Penna, Have by my last will and testament in writing duly executed bearing date the Fifthe day of October 1861 given and bequeathed to Ann Eliza Freeston one Carrage & Harness now I the said Able Channell being desirous to alter my said Will in respect to said legacy do therefore make this present writing which I will and direct to be annexed as a Codicil to my said will and take as a part thereof and I do hereby revoke the said legacy by my said giving to Ann Eliza Freeston and one [--?--] and known by the name of Beck and I do give to Jane Channell my wife, the said Charriage & Harness ^ And I do satisfy and confirm my said Will in everything except where the same is hereby revoked and altered as aforesaid. William A. Channell. deceased.   Grove York County-Pa. 

                                 do hereby make my

                                 last Will and Testament

                                 First I will that all

my just debts be paid: Further that those who

have cared for me--during my last sickness




shall be compensated as indicated to my Executors hereinafter named. I further direct that my executors hereinafter named have placed at my grave and at that of my wife Charity Channell suitable tombstones after all my debts are paid. I will all the balance of my estate to my nephew George W. Channell. I constitute and appoint Wm R, Webb and Vallie Hawkins as executors of my last Will and Testament. I authorize my executors herein named to sell all my property real or personal Either at public or private sale and apply the proceeds in accordance with the provisions of this will. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this nineteenth day of April. A.D. 1897. his William A. X Channell *seal* mark Signed sealed and declared by William A. in and for said County. personally appeared

Henry T. Brown, Vallie Hawkins and Salome A. Webb.

the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Last Will

and Testament. who. upon being duly qualified

according to law. do depose and say that they 

were personally present and saw and heard

William A. Channell, laye of Fawn Grove Borough

York County. Pennsylvania. deceased the testator.

sign. seal. publish. pronounce and declare the 

within and foregoing instrument of writing as 

and for his Last Will and Testament. and at 

the time of him so doing he the testator was of 

sound and disposing mind, memory and under-

=standing. to the best of their knowledge and belief.

and that they witnessed the same at the request 

of the testator and in his presence and in the 

presence of each other at the same time.

Memorandum.

William A. Channell. the said decedent, died




on the 20th day of April. A.D.1897. at or about the hour of 12 O'clock M. of said day. as per affadavit of death in Book No. 9 page 60. filed on the 26th day of April AD 1897. Letters of Testamentary on the foregoing Will of William A. Channell. deceased. were granted to Wm R. Webb and Vallie Hawkins. the Executors named in the said Will. after being duly qualified according to law. on the 26th day of April A.D. 1897. John H. Wambaugh. Register of Wills No 70 Filed April 26th AD 1897. A true copy taken from and compared with the Original remaining on file in the Registers Office of York County Pennsylvania. John H. John Channell. deceased.   of York and State of 

                           Pennsylvania being of 

                           sound mind and mem=

                           =ory do make and publish

this my last Will and testament:



1st  It is my will that my just debts and 

all charges be paid out of my estate.



2nd  I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth

Thompson one dollar in full of her interest in

my whole Estate.



3rd  I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane 

Margaret McLaughlin . one dollar in full of her 

interest in my whole Estate.



4th  I give and bequeath to my son James Clark




Channell. one dollar in full of his interest in my whole Estate. 5th. I give and bequeath to my son Samuel Martin Channell. one dollar in full interest in my whole Estate. 6th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Rachel Ann Jones one dollar in full interest in my whole Estate. 7th. All the rest residue and remainder of my Estate real personal and mixed of which I shall die seized and possessed or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease I give devise and bequeath unto my son John Joseph Channell and to my daughter Mary Rose Channell. Sarah Amanda Channenll. and Martha Agness Channell and the survivors of them their heirs and assign as tenants in Common. I appoint and make the said John Joseph Channell and Mary Rose Channell Executor and Executrix of this my my last will and testament. Signed and sealed the nineteenth day of February AD 1894.
