AYASS
(AYERS)

William AYASS was born on 28 Aug 1828 in Wurtemburg, Germany. He immigrated in 1858 to Anderson Co., Kansas. He served in the Kansas military during the Civil War from 14 Aug 1862 to 31 Aug 1865. He mustered out of service at Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas. He married Margaret KOETTING, daughter of John H. KETTING and Catherine BULLE, on 6 Dec 1866 in St. Peters Church, St. Charles, St. Charles Co., Missouri. He and Margaret KOETTING moved to Anderson Co., Kansas by 1880.

At some time during his life, the family name was changed to the spelling of AYERS. The earliest instance of this in in 1866; William's last name is "Ayers" in the record of his marriage to Margaret Koetting WASSMER in 1866. William AYASS and Margaret KOETTING had the following children:

  1. Anna Josephine, b. 11 Apr 1869 in St. Charles, St. Charles Co., Missouri; m. Joseph F. LICKTEIG, son of Frank J. LICKTEIG Sr. and Katherine KNAB, 29 Sep 1891 in Scipio, Anderson Co., Kansas; d. 27 Jul 1939 at age 70; bur. 29 Jul 1939 in St. John's emetery, Greeley, Anderson Co., Kansas
  2. Mary Elizabeth, b. 15 Apr 1872; d. 1 Aug 1874 at age 2; bur. in St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio, Anderson Co., Kansas
  3. Rosa Margaret, (aka Mary); b. 19 Oct 1876 in Kansas; m. John J. LICKTEIG, son of Frank J. LICKTEIG Sr. and Katherine KNAB, 20 Nov 1894; d. 25 Nov 1908 in Anderson Co., Kansas, at age 32; bur.in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Scipio, Anderson Co., Kansas
William AYASS / AYERS died on 17 Aug 1915 in Garnett, Anderson Co., Kansas, at age 86. He was buried 17 Aug 1915 in Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett.
