The Family of Lydich Henrichsen
At this time, very little is known about the family of Lydich
HENRICHSEN. According to most census records, Lydich was born in
Denmark, although one census indicates that he was born in Germany.
According to correspondents, the name Lydich is not a common Danish name
and the family may be from Schleswig-Holstein, an area that has passed
back and forth between Denmark and Germany numerous times. The family
name is spelled in various ways in both the censuses and vital records.
Elizabeth's death records lists her maiden name as "Elizabeth HENDRICKSON"
and her father as "L. HENDRICKSON". Other names of the family include
HINRICHSON, HINRICKSEN, HENRICHSON, etc.
It is not entirely clear that Lydich HENRICHSEN is the father of
the Elizabeth HINRICHSON who married George William STEMMERMAN. In the census of
1880, Lydich has a daughter named Louisa who is the right age to be
Elizabeth (who was also known as Lizzie), and a son named Charles who is
the right age to be the Charles HINRICHSON who lived in Cripple Creek,
Colorado, and who was known to be Elizabeth's brother. All of
Lydich's children were born in Iowa, as were both Elizabeth and Charles.
Additionally, Arthur STEMMERMAN's wife
remembers his "Aunt Minnie" who lived in Oklahoma and who used to visit
them. Lydich's youngest daughter was named Winnie or Minnie (probably
short for Wilhelmina). Thus far, the family of Lydich HENRICHSEN has been
found in the 1880 (Iowa), 1900 (Kansas), and 1910 (Kansas) census.
Although he supposedly had a daughter in Davenport, Iowa in 1869 or
1870, he has not been found in any county in Iowa in 1870, thus far. They
have also not been found in the 1920 census; both Lydich and Wilhelmina
may have been deceased at that point.
Buried in Sunset Lawn cemetery in El Dorado, Butler Co., Kansas is an
"L. HEINRICKSON", born 1847 and died May 9, 1934. This may be Lydich,
although this is not confirmed. Lydich and Winnie were living in El
Dorado in 1910.
