LINDQUIST
(LILJEQUIST)


Jonas (SVENSSON) LILJEQVIST, the son of Sven FÄLT and Ingrid NILSDOTTER, was born 28 Jun 1830 at Rydaholm parish, Jönköping, Småland, Sweden. He married Karin NILSDOTTER, daughter of Nils FRITIOFSON and Maja SAMUELSDOTTER, after 1852. Jonas and Karin had eight children, several of whom eventually emigrated to the United States. After Karin's death, Jonas married Kristina SVENSDOTTER on 11 Nov 1873. Kristina was born 22 Sep 1847 at Mistelas, Kronoberg, Småland, Sweden. Jonas and Kristina had seven children:

  1. Hilda, b. 19 Jun 1874 at Rydaholm. She resided in 1892 at Agannaryd, Kronoberg, Småland, Sweden
  2. Axel Vilhelm, b. 2 Feb 1878 at Rydaholm; d. at Cripple Creek, Teller Co., Colorado; bur. at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Cripple Creek. He was a gold miner in Cripple Creek
  3. Sven Gustaf
  4. Jenny Elise, b. 22 Feb 1883 at Rydaholm
  5. Carl Johan, b. 29 May 1885 at Rydaholm
  6. Johan August, b. 5 Nov 1887 at Rydaholm; d. 2 Feb 1890 at Rydaholm, at age 2
  7. Selma Justine, b. 30 Dec 1890 at Rydaholm
  8. Ellen Maria, b. 26 May 1894 at Rydaholm

Jonas apparently lived all his life in Rydaholm parish, in a town or village called Lokaryd Norrege. At the age of 19, he joined the military, and took the surname LILJEQUIST. He served in the Småland Grenadier Battalion, Sunnerbo Company.

Sven Gustaf LILJEQUIST/LINDQUIST was born 29 May 1880 at Rydaholm. He emigrated in 1902 from Rydaholm and originally went to Manhattan, Kansas where his sister Emma was living. He later went to Aspen, Colorado and worked in the mines there. At some point, his surname was changed to Lindquist. He married Ida Maria ERLANDSDOTTER, the daughter of Erland JONASSON and Emma Kristina ANDERSDOTTER, 13 May 1905 at Aspen. Prior to 1910, the family moved to Cripple Creek, Colorado, and on September 21 1915, he and Ida became citizens of the United States. Gus and Ida had three children:

  1. Clarence Erland, b. 20 Dec 1905 at Aspen, Colorado; d. 8 Jun 1932 at Cripple Creek, Colorado following a gunshot wound at age 26; bur. 13 Jun 1932 at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado; He was a foreman in the print shop at the Cripple Creek Times Record, and also a journeyman printer and linotype operator at that paper
  2. Arthur Gustov
  3. Dora Edith, b. 30 Apr 1911 at Cripple Creek, Colorado; m. Clarence FOLTZ.

Gus died 26 Dec 1916 at Cripple Creek, Colorado at age 36 of miners tuberculosis . He is buried next to his brother Axel at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Cripple Creek, Colorado.

Arthur Gustov Lindquist was born 23 Feb 1908 at Aspen, Colorado. He married Elsie Mae STEMMERMAN, the daughter of George William STEMMERMAN and Elizabeth Henrietta HINRICHSON, 16 Jan 1930 in Los Angeles, California. For a time, Arthur and Elsie lived in Cripple Creek, Colorado, where he worked as a carpenter for a mining company. Arthur and Elsie had two children. Following the death of their young son, the family moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked in the automobile industry.

Arthur died 3 Dec 1955 at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, California at age 47. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado, with his mother, wife, and son Gary.

Arthur LINDQUIST was my grandfather.
